Minimum Qualifications This appointment will be provisional and may either be at the journey or trainee 1 level depending on candidate qualifications.Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications are:Toll Electronic Systems Technician Trainee 1 - Either 1. one year of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex* electrical/electronic equipment such as computer hardware, network hardware or similar equipment involving work with electrical/electronic control circuits;Or 2. 30 college semester credit hours including at least 9 college semester credit hours in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, electrical technology, computer technology, automotive technology, electrical construction and maintenance, or electronic technology;Or 3. military training/rating in an electronics field including completion of an electronic rating school program;Or 4. graduation from a high school technical electricity/electronics education program or a BOCES program recognized by the New York State Education Department.Toll Electronic Systems Technician (journey level) -Either 1. three years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex* electrical/electronic equipment such as computer hardware, network hardware or similar equipment involving work with electrical/electronic control circuits;Or 2. 60 college semester credit hours including at least 15 college semester credit hours in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, electrical technology, computer technology, automotive technology, electrical construction and maintenance, or electronic technology AND one year of the experience described in #1 above;Or 3. military training/rating in an electronics field including completion of an electronic rating school program AND one year of the experience described in #1 above;Or 4. graduation from a high school technical electricity/electronics education program or a BOCES program recognized by the New York State Education Department AND one year of the experience described in #1 above.**Complex electrical/electronic equipment containing solid state electronic circuitry, printed circuit boards, switches and relays; computer and network hardware including ethernet data converters, serial servers, network switches, routers and hubs.

Duties Description Under the general supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Toll Equipment), the Toll Electronic Systems Technician/Trainee 1 is responsible for the maintenance and repair of complex electrical/electronic equipment such as computer hardware, or similar equipment involving work with electrical/electronic control circuits. Work is generally related to the Thruway’s computerized Toll System or Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), but can include other computer, network, or electronic cabling and equipment. Technicians may be required to maintain, repair, overhaul, install, test, adjust, or modify assigned equipment. Subject to call on a 24-hour basis.

Additional Comments Selected provisional candidate must take the next Civil Service exam for Toll Electronic Systems Technician/Trainee 1 and obtain a reachable score on the resulting eligible list in order to be appointed permanently.
