Carver Companies General Manager of Construction in Altamont, New York

JOB FUNCTIONS
* Meet on a regular basis with the vice president to discuss corporate management, financial analysis, policy changes, potential opportunities & discuss overall division goal status
* Responsible for the safety program for the division. Interacts continually to assist the Project Managers, General Superintendent & Safety Officer to ensure compliance to the safety program
* Interacts continually with Project Managers to assist in project management, scheduling, problem solving and employee interaction
* Supervises and makes recommendations of project selection for bidding/negotiating new projects and interacts continually with estimating
* Interacts with HR in establishing evaluating making changes to current policies. Assists HR with specific employee issues
* Oversee the estimating review process for the projects and ensures the pre-qualification paperwork is complete for the projects
* Responsible for scheduling all internal meetings related to the division. Weekly scheduling of labor & equipment, internal handoff meeting and weekly construction meetings
* Review the costs per each project with construction team to make sure the project is delivered on time and under budget
* Interacts with accounting and payroll department to discuss divisional issues and changes to reporting and other procedures
* Works with Project Managers & General Superintendent to determine labor needs including determining termination, lay-offs, and new hires. Reviews, determines and makes recommendations for salaries, rates, benefits and wage increases for division employees
* Attends bid reviews, weekly construction meetings, preconstruction, onsite job meetings & job closeout
* Solicits new business and clients along with meeting with potential new clients & associates
* Makes periodic jobsite visits to discuss projects with General Superintendent, Foremen & employees
* Attends meetings and develops company involvement with local industry events and associations, and encourages participation by individuals within the division

EDUCATION
* Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university with 5-10 years of field experience; or 10-15 years of related supervisory or management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

REQUIREMENTS
* Full knowledge of the construction industry with the ability to estimate projects
* Management and leadership abilities
* Knowledge of accounting principles to develop budgets and projections
* Written and oral communication to read and write proposals and business plans
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of owners, managers, clients, customers and general public
* Scheduling abilities and knowledge
* Problem solving
* Computer skills and working knowledge of estimating, job cost, accounting and scheduling software
* Budget and financial reports
* Ability to determine accurate costs for work performed and for future work
