GENERAL SUMMARY

The O&M Auxiliary Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a combined cycle power generation facility utilizing GE 7FA combustion turbines.

Job Function / Requirements* *

  • Operates turbine-generators and auxiliaries to include start-up and shutdown. Observes and records readings of required indicators and/or instruments for safe operation within prescribed limits.
  • Make entries in the shift log and ensure equipment issues or out of specification parameters are documented, reported, and if possible corrected. Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Shift Lead.
  • Complete required documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA), lockout tag out and work permits, assist with job plan creation. Complete feedback on assigned work orders as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in all Company sponsored safety, environmental and other training. Comply with all Company safety maintenance and operations work procedures and standards.
  • Monitor plant conditions & boiler water chemistry and make notifications to Shift Lead as required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively. Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work and support teams as both a leader and participating member.
  • Assist contractors to facilitate efficient execution of the Company’s work.
  • Must be able to work from blueprints, drawings and P&IDs.
  • Operate a computer terminal utilizing word processing, spreadsheets and database applications such as Computerized Maintenance Management System, (CMMS, MAXIMO preferred).
  • Provide routine relief of other O&M Operators (absences, vacation, sick leave, etc.). Shift work, overtime, and standby status are required.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager
  • Acts as a team member with all employees of NAES and Partnership staff
  • Comply with all NAES policies and procedures
  • Performs housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, safe work environment* *
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be able to obtain applicable New York City Certificate of Fitness certifications.
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment.
  • Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment, and communicate clearly on portable radios.
  • Valid driver’s license required

The O&M Auxiliary Operator reports to the Operations Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing, sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks and the like as required); stooping; squatting; crouching; crawling; kneeling; reaching; grasping; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50lbs); feeling; talking and hearing.
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, manuals, colored graphics and alarms.
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.
  • Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test (if applicable)_ _
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. 60% of the work is performed outdoors and 40% is performed indoors.
  • Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment, and communicate clearly on portable radios.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements

The O&M Auxiliary Operator works rotating 12 hour shifts to cover operations of a 24 x 7 operation. The position works nights, weekend, holidays and overtime as required by workload.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.

Education/Experience

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment.
  • Technical degree and/or equivalent experience with gas turbines, steam turbines or power generating equipment is desirable.
  • Theoretical, practical and demonstrated knowledge of combustion turbine, steam turbine operations or applicable experience is required.
  • Must successfully complete a qualification process on plant operations and systems.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be able to obtain applicable New York City Certificate of Fitness certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license required
