Barilla Americas Packaging Operator - Avon, NY in Avon, New York

Barilla America NY, Inc. (BANY) is seeking its next Packaging Operator within the Supply Chain Unit to be based out of its Avon, NY location. This position will report to a Production Supervisor.

The Packaging Operator is responsible for operation of high speed automated packaging equipment. Packaging Operators will only work half the days in a month, as they work a flexible 12 hr. shift in a (2-2-3) shift pattern. Night shift Packaging Operators also recieve a generous night shift differential. Applicants must be available to work every other weekend as part of their regular schedule.

Packaging Operators during their shift are primarily responsible for loading packaging materials on the packaging machines, performing quality checks, and making mechanical adjustments as needed. Below are more specific details:
At shift start-up Packaging Operators are responsible for: Checking silos, shakers, and metal detectors.
Ensure the code date is correct; glue pot has correct temperature and is full.
Take carton tare weights.

(Packaging Operators are required to use wrenches, allen wrenches, and screw drivers to make mechanical adjustments or carton size changes.)
Quality checks will include: Ensuring the correct code date on cartons and cases.
Ensuring glue seals and product weight and appearance meet standards.
Verifying that the metal detector is functioning optimally.

(Legible handwriting is required for quality checks that are federally required and completed every half hour, 4 hours, or per shift dependent upon task.)
Communication is esential to this position and could include: Verbal communication by radio or in person with the forklift driver to replenish necessary supplies, and with other Packaging Operators or Maintenance regarding shift activities or troubleshooting.
Verbal communication with Quality Assurance and/or Supervisor in regards to defective product.
Written communication each shift via Microsoft One Note to notate mechanical issues, and SAP to report shift production totals.

Other tasks Packaging Operators complete as assinged : Maintain operational sanitation inside and outside of equipment and work area.
Complete regrind of product as needed.
Transport cartons and cardboard to the compactor for recycling. Responsible for loading and unloading compactor.
