Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clerk \*Community Medicine \* Monday - Friday 9a-5p.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for the clerical communications and receptionists functions of a Community Medicine Program clinic.

Job Responsibilities:
Create appointments
Answer CMP main number
Filing as necessary
Provides translation assistance as needed to facilitate the patient and provider interaction
Picks up and delivers packages or mail as required outside of hospital and clinic premises
Delivers messages and carries hand packages between departments in the hospital and clinic
Orders, receives and maintains adequate forms, supplies and charts necessary for the functioning of the registration and appointment areas
Performs tasks as assigned
Checks medical record for signatures, dates, permission forms, and other pertinent information. Checks procedures and coding of services rendered as appropriate.
Performs a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient medical records to include filing; retrieving and distributing medical records, loose notes and reports in accordance with established priorities and procedures in a designated section of the medical record department
Relieves other employees while they are on breaks, vacation, sick leave and/or attending trainings/meetings as assigned by supervisory staff
Able to enter all charges and diagnosis up to 200 Medicare encounter forms on a daily basis using the most specific ICD-9 codes (4th & 5th digits) by abstraction in the 3M coding software within two days of receipt
Request medical and/or behavioral records from other institutions.
Obtain medical and behavioral health authorizations
Able to identify data entry errors in the assignment of, but not limited to patient type, date of service, service-diagnosis conflict and account numbers and uses available resources and reporting mechanisms to verify the correct information
Notifies the physician of record of all failed appointments at the end of each session
Generates and sends patients letters, forms, and reports as directed by the supervisor
Contacts patients prior to appointments for reminder purposes via telephone and contacts patients who fail appointments
Via telephone correspondence and personal contact communicates with patients to schedule appointments in a timely manner, maximizing patient satisfaction
Maintains accurate information regarding all insurance accepted by FHC (including Commercial Insurance, HMOs, etc.); services are covered by each plans. Corrects and updates patient demographic and insurance information.
Verifies patient insurance/address/telephone contact information for billing and notification purposes.
Screens patients to determine eligibility for financial programs (e.g., Child Health Plus, presumptive Medicaid applications, etc.); orients patients regarding the programs available; advise patients regarding necessary documentation to apply for financial programs; refers patients to other programs in LFHC sites on a timely basis to maximize revenue

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High school diploma
proficient with computer and EMR experience prefer. A strong desire to work with homeless individuals
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
