Citizenship and Immigration Services MISSION SUPPORT SPECIALIST in Buffalo, New York

Summary

Every day, our Mission Support Specialist coordinates and performs a wide variety of administrative and management services essential to the operations of the office.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities described are for the GS-11 level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity.

Coordinate and complete a wide variety of assignments in administrative specialty areas such as budget and finance, human resources, facility and asset management, procurement, training and employee development or other administrative areas.

Conduct research and analyze administrative data to identify problems, significant factors, and trends affecting administrative programs.

Analyzes how changes in laws and regulations effect administrative services and develop methods to be compliant with those regulations.

Serve as an administrative liaison and consultant for local office leadership.

Lead and/or support activities that promote and support a smart creative environment for all team members.

Work in a creative and innovative environment, where you will participate in the development of solutions and efficiencies to improve division operations and improve customer service.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Qualifications

GS-9: In addition to the qualifications at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-9 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Assisting in a wide variety of assignments in administrative areas such as budget, human resources, facility and asset management, procurement, training and employee development or other administrative area.

Developing surveys, charts, graphs, and documents using various software applications.

Representing the office during conferences, phone calls and during briefings or training sessions. OR You may substitute a Master's or equivalent degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a J.D. or L.L.B degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. GS-11: In addition to the qualifications at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-11 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Coordinating a wide variety of assignments in administrative areas such as budget, human resources, facility and asset management, procurement, training and employee development or other administrative area.

Serving as a liaison and consultant to local office leadership in a variety of administrative fields.

Analyzing administrative processes and recommending ways to make improvements. OR You may substitute a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent degree) or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or L.L.M. if related for experience at the GS-11 grade level or such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours.
