Position Title Principal Clerk - Bookstore - Part Time, Cafe & Accounting

FLSA Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities

Primarily four days/week and 6.5 hours/day to perform routine clerical duties including cash register operation, customer service, purchasing, stock-keeping, accounting, and store maintenance for the Brewer Bookstore, including the Brewer Café. Primary supervisor on regularly scheduled weekends, and on other specified dates. Accounting: serve as main backup to the Account Receivable/Account Payable clerk. Plan for, provide, oversee and reconcile cash for all events (buyback, book signings, sporting events, etc). Fluent use of in-store computer system—sale reports, pay ware, and billing software. Point-Of-Sale customer service: Ensure proper checking of merchandise, maintain forms and cash levels, keep checkout area neat and orderly. Maintain secure point-of-sale and monitor security system. Respond to customer needs, box or wrap merchandise, promote good will between Store/University and the customer/public. Regularly scheduled shift manager including: Complete responsibility for opening and closing the store. Respond to all types of store issues: customer service, policies, and procedures along with store security. Control of safe including responsibility for opening it and maintaining proper cash levels in all registers. Ensure that each register is prepared for the start of business. Supervision of student employees including assignment of tasks and any necessary training. Other related duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT FUNCTION Departmental responsibilities to include:

CAFÉ o Receive and determine pricing for café o Provide all inventory functions, purchasing tracking, establishing price guidelines, posting loss and prices changes o Ensure all café rules and standards are observed and health guidelines are maintained o Provide for equipment maintenance and repair o Oversee training of all café staff (full time, temps and student workers) o Confer with the Director and appropriate bookstore staff to ensure café is properly staffed

ACCOUNTING o Serve as main backup to the Account Receivable/Account Payable clerk o Plan for, provide, oversee and reconcile cash for all events {buyback, book signings, sporting events, etc.} o Fluent use of in-store computer system—sale reports, pay ware, and billing software o Manage programs such as gift certificates, postage stamps, and newspapers

Minimum Qualifications

• Education/Knowledge: High school diploma. • Experience: One year of café & one year of bookkeeping experience, or equivalent formal training. • Skills/Physical Requirements: o Ability to relate to students, faculty, and the public in stressful situations.
o Ability to follow instructions and complete projects satisfactorily, with or without close supervision. o Basic arithmetic: to include percentages, discounts, and simple formulas. o Good keyboarding skills. o Ability to lift and manage a 50lb box of books. o Microsoft Excel
