U.S. Army Medical Command Emergency Medical Technician in Fort Drum, New York

Summary About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between. Responsibilities Respond to on-site accidents and/or other emergencies that involve injury and/or illnesses. Make independent preliminary assessment for scene safety and of the patients condition. Provide medical treatments as prescribed in protocol. Operate transport vehicle to move patient safely to medical treatment facility. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EPERIENCE: In order to qualify you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level GS-05 such as: following prescribed protocols when assisting with emergency medical treatment; aiding with patient examination in order to determine seriousness of condition; communicating with radio and/or cellular equipment regarding emergency situation; selecting driving route to/from site of emergency; and/or assisting to lift and/or carry patient from the ambulance to emergency treatment facility. Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a New York State issued Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. And This position ALSO requires you to possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS requirement. NOTE: must upload copy of certifications with your resume to be considered for this position. Education Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone --no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
