Phoenix House of California Inc Senior Counselor I A in Hauppauge, New York
Provides direct counseling services to clients and operates with more limited discretion / autonomy; activities are closely guided by clinical supervision and standards mandated by appropriate regulatory agencies.
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, delivers substance abuse treatment services to patients. Supervises counselors in implementing the treatment curriculum. Responsible for the administration, supervision, and direction of clinical activities involved in establishing a complete treatment environment.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Supervises Counselors in scheduling all patients into treatment activities, assigns caseloads; monitors and evaluates counselors in the performance of their duties (assessments, treatment planning, counseling and all other clinical activities).
Handles a caseload, delivering all treatment components to assigned patients; develops and revises individual treatment plans, assesses patient progress, provides individual and group counseling, assigns job functions, facilitates peer support groups, delivers workshops and seminars (developing new topics, as needed in consultation with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator), provides and supervises recreational programming, etc.
Participates in case conferences to assess patient progress, where needed; makes recommendation for changes in treatment planning and advancement to the next treatment level.
Makes recommendations regarding program effectiveness, and needed revisions to the program design and/or policies and procedures.
Provides input for annual counselor performance evaluations for the Clinical Coordinator’s and/or Program Director’s review.
Must be available on an “on-call” basis at all times.
Supervision and participation in all necessary group encounters, seminars and morning meetings.
Teach and train staff in the clinical aspects of a treatment, rendering individual training whenever necessary, while observing staff performance in actual treatment situations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Master Degree
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Independent license issued by NYS
Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in good standing, preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum three years of experience working with the substance use disorder population
Minimum one year of experience in a supervisory role
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in an indoor office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers.
