Victory Packaging Production Supervisor, 2nd Shift in Hicksville, New York
The opportunity:
The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor will:
Work directly with sales, customers, and production on new project requests for potential new business.
Ensure the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Proactively manage departmental metrics that impact cost (e.g., downtime, make-readies, run speed and waste).
Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, all S.O.Ps, work instructions, and GMPs.
Responsible for day-to-day management of department including handing out work assignments, daily planning, managing performance of direct reports, operational decisions, problem-solving, and conflict management.
How you will impact WestRock:
Process prototypes and/or drawings for initial concept consideration.
Foster a team atmosphere, provides vision, and demonstrate support of the company’s core processes, leadership, and decisions.
Work with production to determine most efficient ways to produce the product. Maintain log of projects and turn-around times.
Communicate information to customer and coworkers to ensure that product is produced according to the appropriate specifications.
Create templates for all designs once production has been approved.
Ensure department meets production and quality goals on a daily basis.
Identify, document, and share departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste and any other metrics required by the company.
Plan and schedule staffing to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.
Manage employee performance by setting goals and consistently holding employees accountable for meeting performance standards.
Train or ensure training is conducted in Safety, GMPs, Quality systems rules and procedures.
Ensure compliance to all company policies and procedures.
Make sound operational decisions.
Understand the functions and capabilities of various departments and use those resources effectively.
Analyze root causes and solve problems effectively and in a timely manner.
Use data to improve productivity.
Lead, motivate, and inspire individual workers and teams.
Manage effectively through change, transition, and conflict.
Own issues and problems, seeing them through to resolution.
Ensure employees are cross-trained and given opportunities to learn new things.
Provide needed resources and support (technical, training, motivational).
Build collaborative relationships within the organization.
Identify and resolve potential safety problems; responds to safety audits.
Write S.O.Ps as needed; submit revision requests and create temporary work instructions.
Ensure all documentation/time sheets are legible and accurate.
Address both internal and external corrective actions.
Maintain a clean work environment (5S Basics).
Lead effective department meetings.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.); college degree preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience if external candidate; printing experience preferred.
Must have the ability to do the jobs he/she is supervising or to quickly gain a working knowledge of those jobs.
Must have at least 3 years’ experience with customers interfacing and/or explaining our capabilities.
Must demonstrate strong technical knowledge and ability to lead and motivate others.
Must have the ability to meet and/or pass the minimum requirement on a mechanical test or have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior work experience.
Must have math and measurement skills to understand, track, analyze, and report on operating metrics.
Must have effective interpersonal communication skills.
Must have the ability to foster team work and motivate individual performers.
Must have knowledge of or be able to learn safety rules and procedures, operating, maintenance, and technical policies and procedures.
Must be able to relate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
Must be process-oriented.
Must be reliable and dependable.
Must be able to pass color vision test.
Functions well in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
