Our paid Summer Developmental Internship, running from June 5 - August 4, is a 10-week program that will be an onsite, in-person experience. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

The Summer Developmental Intern program is ideal for a college or graduate level student interested in:
Exploring how hydropower, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and various exciting initiatives at NYPA are changing the power industry
Seeing firsthand what it’s like to work for New York State
Learning about NYPA’s commitment to New York State citizens and the communities where our generation facilities are located
Learning about our various energy sites to see how our power is made and how important it is to provide reliable electricity in New York
Gaining a foundation on the energy regulations that govern our industry
Internships will be ideal for students pursuing degrees in the following disciplines:
Engineering
Information Technology
Data Science
Responsibilities
Participate in department-specific projects, analysis, research methods and learn project management skills
Develop business solutions that support the delivery of NYPA’s VISION2030
Participate in a cross-functional team project
Research and provide insight on industry best practices
Other duties as assigned; will vary based on area of interest
This position will perform a crucial role in assisting with support work on UOPP projects with estimating, work phase coordination, and inspection of work performed. You will have the opportunity to work on the ice boom hardware and cable life extension, road and parking asphalt condition assessment and replacement, signage and gate asset tracking, fire door evaluation, and concrete rehabilitation efforts.
The assistance provided in these areas well help in developing more strategic maintenance and repair budgets and work implementation for greatest life cycle use of the site infrastructure. Proper design and application of corrective maintenance work yields the greatest cost to benefit ratio for NYPA.
While providing a critical knowledge and experience building opportunity, this role will be immersed in self-guided efforts, and give additional technical oversight, data collection, and provide key conditional assessments to improve reaction and response to time sensitive and safety sensitive corrective solutions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Education, Experience and Certifications
Must be matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution at the time of application
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
Be available on the designated start date on June 5th
Physical Requirements
Must have access to reliable transportation and be able to work Mon-Fri from 7am - 3:30pm within a hydroelectric power plant.
