What You Will Do

As a Unit Attendant with Ascension Living, you'll assist in maintaining a clean, pleasant and safe environment. Helps to insure comfort of residents. Adheres to Facility Standards of Conduct and practices the Core Values of Service of the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity and Dedication. Represents OLP accurately and honestly. Acts with integrity and in the best interest of OLP. Identifies instances of non-compliance and takes appropriate action, including reporting violations of the CRP. Adheres to Facility policy or regulations. Business relationships are conducted in the best interest of OLP, free of gifts, favors or other improper inducements.

Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria

The following are essential job accountabilities:

1) Makes beds and changes linen. (35%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Is able to complete his/her work assignments independently. Maintains clean, orderly, safe resident rooms and work areas, i.e. cleans tops of dressers, bedside stands and over the bed tables. Uses universal precautions when handling soiled linen.

  • Communications Performance Criteria - Reports to the charge nurse at start of shift and receives daily assignment.

  • Planning/Timeliness Performance Criteria - Completes job duties within required timeframe, according to established schedules or workflow requirements.

2) Gives clothes in need of repair to charge nurse for follow up. (25%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Accurately separates torn garments and routes for mending.

3) Transports residents in wheelchairs and geri chairs within the Facility. (20%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Identifies when help is required in providing resident care and seeks it appropriately, recognizing own limitations. HIPAA Competency- Protects resident's privacy by insuring any items with resident data on them are not left unattended.

  • Collaboration Performance Criteria - Assists residents with behavior needs to keep them safe.

  • Resident Relations Performance Criteria - Demonstrates tact, compassion and flexibility. Responsible for safety of residents under his/her supervision. Complies with safety regulations and policies.

4) Distributes fresh water. (8%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Maintains confidentiality of all resident, Facility and/or physician related information. Maintains resident confidentiality and does not discuss residents in public access areas, such as cafeteria, hallways, elevators, etc. Demonstrates mission of the Facility by insuring resident's water is changed regularly.

  • Resident Relations Performance Criteria - Demonstrates tact and compassion.

5) Attends all inservices and meetings as required. (6%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Projects poise, authority, and a positive image. Wears appropriate clothing and accessories, giving proper attention to personal hygiene. Wears Facility ID Badge while on duty. Infection Control Competency: Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all infection control procedures including proper hand-washing techniques, contact with blood spills and universal precautions. Attends department meetings as required and scheduled. Attends all mandatory inservices. Attends meetings as needed. Competency: Participates in drills and demonstrates knowledge of Plan for Department.

The following duties may be reassigned:

6) Prepares residents for meals. (3%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Passes and collects intake. Utilizes proper lifting and body mechanics to prevent personal injury.

  • Communications Performance Criteria - Notifies charge nurse of failure to eat or take fluids.

  • Collaboration Performance Criteria - Assists with set-up and feeding. Demonstrates cooperation by assisting with resident feeding following successful completion of feeding assistant training program.

  • Resident Relations Performance Criteria - Encourages meal acceptance and offers alternatives.

7) Cleans closets and drawers as needed. (3%).

  • Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria - Follows policy and procedures when cleaning and disinfecting all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms. Maintain Environmental Services equipment in good condition. Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required utilizing proper lifting and/or transfer techniques.

  • Communications Performance Criteria - Reports mechanical failures or repairs needed in building or equipment.

  • Collaboration Performance Criteria - Assists other co-workers with work load when his/her work load is complete.

8) Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
