Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
Responsible for the daily Packshop schedule to ensure all crate jobs are completed and prepared for delivery in a timely manner. Will work with the Crating Managers & Crateshop Supervisor to organize the labor pool for the effective completion of jobs.
Ensures standard packing materials are well stocked for day-to-day crate production. Will also keep basic inventory of uncommon/ custom materials for inner packing to measure against the needs of upcoming projects.
Must be able to interact with clients to satisfy requests and complaints to the satisfaction of the client and Crozier. Should also maintain communication with the Crating Manager as the project progresses so that any required adjustments to the project design, budget and schedule can be made.
Handling, moving and packing of all kinds of artworks and artifacts to museum standards.
Construction of interior packing components including trays, braces inner boxes, cushioning and insulation, and archival materials to a variety of design specifications.
Reads and processes crate designs and interior packing to given specifications.
Operates power tools and related equipment to manufacture individually designed wood crates and interior packing components for the handling, packing, and shipping of art.
Performs shop maintenance and other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following as minimum qualifications:
A minimum of three (3) years of previous art handling and packing experience in gallery, museum, or fine art services company.
Familiarity with all standard crate packing operations: tray packing of flat work, installation of Oz clips and travel frame packing, brace and cavity packing for 3-D objects.
Excellent precision and attention to detail. Must be able to take direction and adjust work procedures to fit Crozier standards and practices.
Must be presentable and able to work on site with clients, presenting a calm & professional demeanor.
An understanding of archival materials, museum specifications for the crating and packing of museum objects considered a plus.
Experience with rigging equipment considered a plus.
Must be able to read production design paperwork and have good math skills.
Must be able to work within a production wood shop to process materials. Additional knowledge of general wood shop safety and the following power tools and their recommended safety requirements: table saw, radial arm saw, panel saw, belt and orbital sanders, pneumatic staplers and nailers, biscuit joiners, band saws, power drills.
