Reporting administratively to the Executive Vice President for Finance and Information Technology, and to the Audit Committee of the Board, the Associate Vice President (AVP) leads, manages, and organizes all aspects of the University’s internal audit function.
Oversees the management and leading of all activities related to strategic, financial, operational, IT, and management audit services and investigations for the University, including its Medical Center campus and clinical practice activities.
Responsible for strengthening existing processes and systems to ensure appropriate controls are in place to minimize risk.
Responsible for developing the annual audit plan and presenting it to the University Trustees in collaboration with the EVP for Finance and Information Technology.
Reports regularly on the status of significant findings to the EVP and Audit Committee and has overall responsibility for communicating with constituencies across the campus on business process improvement opportunities.
Provides direction and oversight to a 13 member internal audit team including effective performance management and professional growth within the organization.
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting, auditing, or finance;
CIA plus MBA and/or CPA;
A minimum of ten years’ progressively responsible audit management experience in an academic, research, health care, or a comparably complex environment.
- CISA preferred.
In addition, management experience in risk assessment and in addressing specialized areas associated with sponsored research, health care, student financial aid, and financial reporting; or leadership experience in a highly decentralized corporate setting with a number of business lines, and a strong regulatory track record.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of senior University administrators.
Must be experienced at senior (C-level and board-level) presentations.
The successful candidate must have sound judgment, an open and collaborative style of leadership that encourages teamwork and cooperation and serve as a strong role model, manager, and coach.
Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
