Synchrony AVP, UX/UI Visual Designer in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

At Synchrony, we are currently looking for a UX/UI Visual Designer to further shape the landscape and layout of our digital properties. Like all our UX jobs, you’ll collaborate with your fellow designers to constantly refine the Synchrony design system and create innovative, great-looking products that people love to use. You will support the UX team and drive innovative and cutting-edge application designs based on lo/high fidelity wireframes. You will work closely with UX Designers and UX Researchers in pushing the limits of art, animation, and application design across Synchrony’s digital suite of products.

This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home or work in one of our hybrid offices. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training, and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

  • You will work on a team to design, craft and present the best possible visual face for a suite of digital properties on nearly every platform: mobile, kiosk, point-of-sale, desktop, voice and anywhere customers need to manage their finances.

  • Work with product owners, project managers, interaction designers, and developers to create visually compelling, modern digital experiences

  • Educate business stakeholders on best practices and standards as well as push the boundaries of user experience design

  • Manage your time and give accurate timelines for potential workload

  • Be a part of daily/weekly standups and present work to peers

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


  • Minimum of 3 years of UI or Visual Design experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design (or related) or 5+ years equivalent work history

  • Strong understanding of color, photography, typography, iconography, and animation usage in digital experiences

  • A portfolio of design work across related mediums

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with multidisciplinary user experience / or product teams

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with an established brand

  • Minimum of 1 year experience creating design deliverables such as comps and style guides

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working on agile teams

  • Willingness to travel to customers, up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise with industry standard design tools (e.g., Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, Principle).

  • Familiarity with Asset creation: icons, illustrations, and UI

  • Experience with design in motion

  • Experience working with design systems

  • Ability to present work to team members as well as executive leadership

  • Ability to work with remote team members

  • Ability to ensure designs are ADA Compliant across all projects / platforms

  • Ability to mentor junior teammates

  • Iterative design process

  • Understanding of today's creative landscape and trends within the design industry

  • An eye for cohesive visuals across fields like photography, illustration, and motion

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).

The salary range for this position is 75,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
