This highly skilled, detail-oriented and entrepreneurial leader will join us with excellent product and people leadership skills. Prioritizing the consumer, this individual will create a vision for the team to take our product creation process to the next level, focusing on progressive, future facing strategic investments in tools & resources as they upskill the team. This person will also lead transformation with a specific call out around fit, focused on creating a best-in-class fit strategy. We are seeking someone with a track record of introducing new ways of working that lead to effective processes and enhancements that benefit both the team and consumer. The right candidate will be driven towards excellence in costing strategies and work directly with factories developing, owning fit process from conception to production, and work closely with the design, development, production and merchandising teams to bring to life the vision of Tommy John.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and set the direction for a team of technical designers

  • Inspire and develop staff, creating functional department as well as individual goals

  • Develop and implement a progressive fit strategy inclusive of sizing, consistency in block patterns, grade rules and how to measure guidelines

  • Build and manage technical design data libraries in Centric

  • Create templates for technical production and design department

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical metrics and quality standards

  • Build relationships and work closely with factories virtually and in person once travel allows to understand factory capabilities, troubleshoot, upskill as needed, review product, process, and QA, track the performance of our factories and make placement recommendations to the production and quality team.

  • Determine process and protocols to ensure the most efficient workflow within and across functions

  • Assess current systems as it relates to technical design to determine what enhancements or changes need to be made to accelerate the development, fit comments and production approval process.

  • Manage and lead fittings as well as pattern analysis and corrections with team members on Optitex PDS

  • Work with PD and Production teams on fit comment and fit approval due dates to ensure calendar deadlines are met

  • Work with Design team on Product Line Sheet management

  • Work with production team to source best fit factories for appropriate apparel categories

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Design or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in technical design in intimates or activewear; working experience in 3D with Clos or Browzwear, a plus

  • Expert technical proficiency using Centric, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Expert knowledge of fit, construction, garment engineering, patterning and tailoring, and leading industry trends

  • Knowledge of production including manufacturing, product engineering, product lifecycle, calendar management, trade regulations, fabric performance, testing standards, and product integrity

  • Ability to manage, delegate and coach through tasks

  • Passionate about developing high-performing teams and clean designs

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with design and production teams to achieve results

  • Ability to remain enthusiastic, organized and detail-oriented in a fast paced environment
