Director of Technology

The Director of Technology is responsible for developing, implementing, and ensuring effective technology systems to support All Star Code's mission and its strategic goals. All Star Code has a very ambitious strategic plan which will see significant growth across several areas: the number of students served by our programs; the number of cities in which we operate; and the number of channels through which we deliver our programs. Strategic technology systems are foundational to achieving our strategic plans as we strive to more effectively leverage data for fundraising and donor cultivation while increasing the scale at which we engage with students, donors, and other key partners.

Core Responsibilities

Systems Development & Integration

  • Design and develop systems to reduce toil within teams and increase the organization’s ability to scale through automation

  • Rationalize the set of tools used within each department of All Star Code to improve efficiency, cost and data quality

  • Partner with various departments to research best practices and develop new, or enhance existing platforms (ex., partner with Programs Department to refine new learning management system, enable digital student experience)

  • Oversee system upgrades and installations

    Technology Operations

  • Ensure reliability of core systems used by All Star Code

  • Establish help desk process to support internal and external escalations

  • Oversee core tech ops processes including incident management, problem management, access management, technical management

  • Develop and manage software / hardware procurement needs for students / key stakeholders to complete the Summer Intensive

    Data Strategy and Architecture

  • Develop a strategy for efficiently and transparently marshaling data from different sources (e.g., Salesforce) and making it available for the generation of reports and other insights across All Star Code

  • Partner with Sr. Manager of Research and Evaluation on developing interdepartmental and useful evaluation instruments

    Security & Privacy

  • Design security and privacy policies that protect data related to All Star Code, its donors, students, and partners

  • Implement practices and systems to enforce the security and privacy policies and report regular performance updates to the Board of Directors

    Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships and service levels with technology vendors to achieve the best cost/benefit for All Star Code (i.e., Message Agency and the learning management system and Alumni portal, etc.)

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations to the Executive Director on technology platform vendors and purchases

    Qualifications and Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology & Systems, or a related engineering field

  • 7-10 years of experience building and operating systems

  • Strong desire to partner with stakeholders and implement innovative solutions

  • Specific systems experience in:

  • Web platforms (WordPress, Drupal)

  • Installation & maintenance of Salesforce for nonprofit organizations (donor management, program management, etc.)

  • Learning Management System (Opigno)

  • Credentials management (1Password)

  • Google Sheets; Airtable; Typeform or Survey Monkey

  • Understanding of latest technology trends, practices, communities of practice

  • Familiar with: computer hardware and resulting capabilities, computer peripherals, software requirements and compatibility

    All Star Code offers a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time employees.

    Salary range for this position: $100,000 - $110,000
