Columbia University Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York
Dr. Giuseppe Tosto and the Genetic Epidemiology laboratory at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center (Columbia University, NY) is seeking postdoctoral research scientists with a background in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or Computer Science. The candidate will be engaged in research focusing on neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and other age-related traits. The faculty members of the Genetic Epidemiology group are engaged in research focusing on gene mapping, functional genetics, and translational studies. This is a in-person position.
The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center at Columbia University houses a large number of scientists with expertise in clinical, epidemiological, neuropsychological, and genetics research since its conception in 1977.

Responsibilities
Develop, characterize and optimize bioinformatics tools to analyze high-throughput genomic and multi-omics data (e.g. genome-wide association studies, whole exome/genome/RNA sequencing data etc.)
Be able to work independently and collaboratively with highly interactive research groups.
Duties will include designing and performing experiments, data analysis and interpretation, as well as writing manuscripts.
MS in Bioinformatics or Computer Science
Shell scripting and programming proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Java on UNIX/Linux environments, particularly with large text files and genomic data
Familiarity with commonly used human sequence data analysis bioinformatics tools and genetic databases
Working knowledge of statistical genetics will be a plus
The candidates should be self-motivated, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
