Dr. Giuseppe Tosto and the Genetic Epidemiology laboratory at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center (Columbia University, NY) is seeking postdoctoral research scientists with a background in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or Computer Science. The candidate will be engaged in research focusing on neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and other age-related traits. The faculty members of the Genetic Epidemiology group are engaged in research focusing on gene mapping, functional genetics, and translational studies. This is a in-person position.

The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center at Columbia University houses a large number of scientists with expertise in clinical, epidemiological, neuropsychological, and genetics research since its conception in 1977.

Responsibilities

• Develop, characterize and optimize bioinformatics tools to analyze high-throughput genomic and multi-omics data (e.g. genome-wide association studies, whole exome/genome/RNA sequencing data etc.)

• Be able to work independently and collaboratively with highly interactive research groups.

• Duties will include designing and performing experiments, data analysis and interpretation, as well as writing manuscripts.

• MS in Bioinformatics or Computer Science

• Shell scripting and programming proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Java on UNIX/Linux environments, particularly with large text files and genomic data

• Familiarity with commonly used human sequence data analysis bioinformatics tools and genetic databases

• Working knowledge of statistical genetics will be a plus

• The candidates should be self-motivated, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
