Microsoft Corporation Principal Engineering Manager (Backend/Distributed Systems) in New York, New York

As an Engineering Manage r at PromoteIQ , in New York, NY, you will lead, manage, and inspire engineering teams developing next-generation enterprise software for e-commerce and advertising. As a hands-on leader, you’ll help the team fulfill technical, operational, and business requirements.

You will be leading and managing a team of 5-10 engineers as a hands-on Technical Manager.

You will guide architecture and delivery of software products. You will help develop processes and best practices that will become the foundation of the growing PromoteIQ engineering organization. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex technical challenges to deliver enterprise software products while fostering a collaborative and sustainable team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and grow a team of engineers working across the stack throughout the software development lifecycle

  • Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

  • Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution and success of complex technical projects.

  • Establish a solid project management framework and excellent development processes; champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.

  • Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability.

  • Work on strategy and help set direction while actively managing day-to-day software development.

  • Partner with Product management for prioritizing and delivering customer value in a rapidly evolving environment.

  • Lead effectively through outcomes rather than tasks.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field

  • 5+ years' experience developing and shipping software products and/or services

  • 3+ years' expereince as team lead or manager of a cross-functional engineering team

  • Proven experience leading technical projects and delivering on ambitious goals

  • Deep knowledge of engineering processes, their underlying principles, and tradeoffs

  • Fluency in one or more general purpose object oriented programming language including but not limited to:, Java, C++ Experience designing distributed systems for cloud-based microservices architecture at global scale.

  • Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms

  • Previous experience leading a distributed team will be helpful
