CAMBA Recreation Aide, Vincent Cyrus Plaza 57 Supportive Housing in New York, New York

Vincent Cyrus Plaza 57 (VCP 57) is a 43 unit affordable/supportive housing development located in the East Harlem section of New York City. The 43 units are studio apartments set aside for formerly homeless people with HIV/AIDS. CAMBA is the on-site service provider at VCP 57 and offers case management and 24/7 security.

Position: Recreation Aide

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: 57 East 128th St, New York, NY 10035

What The Recreation Aide Does:

  • Assist with the development of recreational program content.

  • Organize and lead activities planned to enhance the social development of individual group members.

  • Assist with the teaching of physical education, arts and crafts, performing arts, music, sports, ADL or other recreational activities.

  • Help plan, coordinate and facilitate social and/or peer support events for clients.

  • Organize, and co-facilitate group community activities.

  • Assist with the design and production of aesthetic visuals for public spaces of the shelter which reflect cultural, seasonal and programmatic themes.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, CAMBA staff, community members and funders.

  • Track and keep records of equipment and supplies used.

  • Ensure that recreation facilities and equipment are used properly.

  • Monitor clients’ progress toward their goals (dates achieved) and document via progress notes.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and/or equivalent experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience developing and coordinating recreational activities that reinforce a client’s desire to lead a clean/sober/independent life with a non-profit or other organization that services special needs or related populations.
