Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research
Scientist.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for execution of
select population health data science, statistical, and other
epidemiologic analyses in the NYU Langone Health Department of
Neurologys Universal Nuanced Insights for Cognitive Resilience (UNICORN)
Lab, working with the Principal Investigators (PIs), fellows, and
coordinator staff. In collaboration, the Research Scientist may also be
responsible for or assist with the following: digital curation of
existing and future datasets and analyses; project design and
management; ensuring accurate execution of research protocols in
accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and required obligations
to patient/participant, PI, research team, and sponsor; interfaces
directly with patients/participants and PIs in support of studies, if
applicable; the preparation of presentation materials; protocols,
manuscripts, and grant submissions; mentoring of trainees and
coordinators; and, presentations at local, national and international
conferences. Will collaborate and consult with the Framingham Heart
Study Neurology Group Biostatistical and Data Management Team, Harvard
TH Chan School of Public Health Onnela Lab, the NYU Alzheimers Disease
Research Center (ADRC) Data Management and Statistics Core, the NYU
DataCore, and the NYU Center for Data Science.

Job Responsibilities:
Research Activities: Research, collect, compile, and conduct analyses of
data, statistics, and other materials. Develop and implement approaches
for network graph modeling, analysis, and data visualization. Develop
and implement supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches
for classifying health states, predicting disease severity and
trajectory, uncovering latent features and latent classes in healthy
brain/cognitive aging and neurodegenerative disease states. Develop
pipeline for training deep learning models, including recurrent neural
network architectures and autoencoders. Extract and visualize features
from time series data, creatively applying a broad range of methods
(e.g., HMMs, SSMs, Gaussian Processes, and spectral analysis). Use
coding best practices. Make methods and de-identified data widely
available. Engage existing collaborations with the Harvard TH Chan
School of Public Health, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston
University School of Medicine, NYU ADRC, and the Framingham Heart Study
and other large epidemiologic cohorts. Form new collaborations to
facilitate learning and/or development of new methods to solve tangible,
meaningful challenges in medicine and population health
Human Subjects' Research: If applicable, updates, and submits necessary
documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB), NYU Office of
Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties to obtain approval to
conduct human subjects research. Secures accurate signatures and
forwards documents and/or forms to appropriate destination. Might help
prepare and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of
Clinical Trials and provide other information in timely manner, as
necessary.
Study Regulations: Aware of study regulatory status and keeps an up to
date copy of regulatory documents. Might assist with the informed
consent process and ensure that the patient/participant fully
understands what is required of them throughout the study.
Continuous Learning: Position requires ongoing continuing education in
all areas of research development. It is expected that the Research
Scientist demonstrates proof of ongoing research education on a yearly
basis. Training programs are provided through the SOM.
Reporting and Analysis: Gathers and compiles data and assists in
consolidating/analyzing data for presentation to sponsoring and
regulatory agencies. Provides reports to all necessary parties (e.g.,
the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of
the study as needed. Conduct primary analysis to data collected.
Formulates, prepares database, and generates preliminary measurement
reports for review by the PI.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as
required.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Proficiency in statistical and programing software (Required: Python, R,
SAS, Stata. Preferred: C, SQL, Linux, ArcGIS/ArcMap, QGIS, online social
media APIs, R Markdown). Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office
applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook.
Familiar with team/project management programs (e.g., GitHub, Trello,
JIRA) as well as cloud storage and computing services (e.g., Dropbox,
AWS).
Time Management: Exceptional organizational skills and ability to
organize time and priorities effectively, asking for direction when
appropriate.
Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.
Analytical Skills: Ability to conceptualize and conduct complex analysis
of research data.
Autonomy: Capacity for independent work.
Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to appropriately evaluate all
aspects of a situation and to independently make appropriate and timely
decisions. Ability to identify, analyze, and solve challenges.
Interpersonal/Communication: Excellent interpersonal/communication
skills and a good command of English language, including medical and
scientific terminology.
Information Systems/Technology Skills: Exceptional computer skills,
including operating systems for desktop/mobile devices, word processing,
database, electronic mail, Internet, spreadsheets, data encryption and
security, data management and quality assurance, and familiarity with
mobile/wearable device data analysis.
Must be able to work under the direction of supervision. Must provide
the names of three individuals who can provide recommendations and
present a scientific seminar describing their previous research. Minimum
2-year commitment.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree and 2-4 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in data science, statistics, or equivalent in a related
discipline and 1-2 years experience or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Knowledge of health data science techniques; computational skills with
network graph modeling, analysis, and data visualization; and, working
with large datasets, preferably with very-high-frequency,
very-high-dimensional data. In addition, a good working knowledge of
general neuroscience and epidemiologic techniques is preferred.
Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills.
Experience with scientific writing and publication.
Recent publications and experience in the field of population health
data science, biostatistics, Alzheimers disease, neurodegenerative
diseases, neuroscience, or related fields.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all
levels of the organization.
