Job Description

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Scientist to join the Automated Histology Group of Molecular Cytology Core Facility, Sloan Kettering Institute, MSKCC

The senior research scientist will work with the core team to manage and expand the machine-based multiplex technologies for detection of proteins and RNA in cells and tissues. He/she will participate in working out strategies for antibody validations, carry out experiments, involves in discussions with researchers-users to identify the best experimental approach and to assess the outcome. The position involves also assistance in an organizational and record keeping strategy to ensure the basic management of equipment, supplies, and user training, access, and billing at the core. He/she will participate in teaching courses for preparation of samples and molecular in situ detections for the MSKCC research community. In partnership with the Core team and the researchers will prepare reports, manuscripts and proposals for new instrumentation. The ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with users and core staff is essential. He/she will report to the Molecular Cytology Core Head.

Key responsibilities include:

· Standardize machine-based single and multiplex Immunohistochemistry/ Immunofluorescence (IHC/IF), RNA in situ hybridization (ISH/FISH) and IHC/IF&ISH/FISH protocols

· Carry antibody validation, apply appropriate antigen retrieval and signal amplification steps to achieve optimum outcome

· Participate in quality assessment of experiment outcome

· Work in partnership with scientists to understand issues and troubleshoot

· Apply knowledge to participate in experimental design and deliver best advice

· Stay abreast of the technological advancement

· Participate actively in the evaluation of novel technologies for introduction at the Core

· Share responsibility for laboratory management, equipment maintenance and safety

Qualifications:

· PhD degree in biology

· Experience in Biology or Related Fields

· Experience with automated staining platforms is a plus

· Positive and open mindset and willingness to work in multidisciplinary teams in close collaboration with the Core imaging group

· Desire to explore and implement innovative spatial multiplex technology

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop
