Support Aide Job Summary:
The Support Aide assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, and is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. The Support Aide is a key member of the nursing care team and is also responsible for providing constant supervision, direct observation or companionship to patients. Support Aides will be trained to provide direct observation, frequent re-orientation, verbal reminders, and companionship to patients with identified risks to safety and to alert nursing personnel of patient needs. This program will supplement nursing strategies for alternatives to the use of restraints, the prevention of patient falls or injuries, and the prevention of patient elopements. Also, performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Education - High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Experience - Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately. Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred. Basic computer knowledge is preferred. Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
Physical Requirements - Walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. Exposure to body fluids.
Licenses/Certifications - BLS within 45 days
Performs constant supervision, direct observation or companionship for patients as assigned by the RN and other health care team members.
Performs activities of daily living appropriate to patient's condition.
Establishes and maintains good communications with patients, families/visitors and hospital staff.
Collaborates with Nurse Manager to support adherence to unit budget.
Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed
