Scope of Position:
Provide process and equipment technical support to the CET Division Engineering Drying group for the engineering and CET manufacturing locations. Focus will be on process and equipment support for new products, developing new technologies, experimentation and plant operations upset support.
Role within Group:
Drying technician within the CET Drying Group involved in assisting with driving drying programs for drying-specific projects, experimentation support and production support, to include:
Develop and/or support experiment plans, derive results and document
New technology / Core Tech support and testing such as:
In-line log measurement inside the MW Dryers
Development MW Dryer documentation and equipment maintenance management
Product dimensional quality improvements
Power control upgrades
Improved drying measurement systems
Improved methods for more uniform heating of the product
Condensation management in the drying systems
General drying process and equipment support
Support of methods and processes for the drying of new products; including interaction with Development on early stage new products
Production upset support
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Work in a cross-functional environment; link between development, division engineering and manufacturing to deliver results
Provide process and equipment technical skills to support new drying processes, products and equipment developments
Support plant drying operations, to include equipment upgrades, troubleshooting and process upsets
Exotherm testing of ware
Lead small projects
Experimental design to determine main effects and optimize important drying processes and/or reduce variability
Use rigorous tools to deliver results including innovation methodologies, MEE, situation analysis, potential problem analysis, decision analyses, risk assessments, DMAIC, LEAN, etc.
Use technical knowledge and skills to solve problems
Communicate and implement best practices across manufacturing plants
Effective communications to translate work, solutions, and directions into presentations to leadership that can be understood and are actionable
Provide appropriate drying system training to plant drying engineers and technicians
Support intellectual property and written documentation
Some travel should be expected, dependent on project assignments. Both domestic and international travel. Typical travel requirement is < 25%.
Required Education and Required Years and Area of Experience:
Associates of Science in technical field, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials or related field
Prefer to have 2+ years of industrial experience in manufacturing or technical roles
Technical competence in chemical, mechanical, electrical or process
Hands on skills, willing to work hands on for equipment and process projects
Computers skills, use of MS Office programs
Use of scientific method to solve problems
Ability to use data to drive solutions
Strong drive to succeed and implement solutions
Achieve results through application of rigorous methods
Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making
Works well independently, in a team or matrix environment
Experience in the stages of innovation, transferring technology and processes from development to production
Experience with ceramics processing or related technologies, Corning Environmental Technologies experience
Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC principles
Knowledge and experience with 2D and 3D CAD software, such as AutoCad and Solidworks
Demonstrated results working in development, engineering or manufacturing
Proficient people skills
