Job Description:

L3Harris in Rochester, NY is looking for an Engineer to support generation and polishing of optical components. Primary responsibility is to provide leadership to a team of Process Engineers who support the fabrication of exquisite optical components. Additionally, this engineer will directly support manufacturing of optical components within the optics focus factory.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership, career development and mentorship to a team of optical fabrication Process Engineers

  • Understand and implement optical fabrication techniques such as: surface generation, traditional grind and polish, computer controlled small tool grind and polish, ion figuring and MRF.

  • Plan, write, and execute manufacturing instructions.

  • Participate in the evaluation, analysis, and improvement of optical fabrication processes.

  • Investigate, analyze, and solve problems.

  • Establish tooling and fixturing requirements.

  • Provide estimates to complete manufacturing operations.

  • Work within a cross-functional team environment.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience or graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and general understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques.

  • Basic understanding and application of geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Demonstrate appropriate computer knowledge in basic Microsoft Office software applications.
