This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Leader. The incumbent will train for a period of 6-12 months as needed be able to perform the full range of job responsibilities. After the training period, this employee may work independently or as part of a team of engineers performing tasks associated with manufacturing engineering to improve efficiency and quality of processes. This individual will also determine the manufacturing procedures, operation sequencing, and establish tool and gauge and machine requirements to manufacture parts. This position requires the individual to be accountable for meeting the demands of deadlines within the timeline and budget associated with each project. He or she must be able to multi-task as well as occasionally work extended hours when required.
The primary area of responsibility is to evaluate existing processes and systems to identify opportunities for cost savings, process enhancements, and other improvements. This involves developing and completing manufacturing improvement projects, coordinating with manufacturing supervision to collect and evaluate data, prepare and present solutions to problems, implementing solutions, and evaluating solution effectiveness.
Problem evaluation and solving skills within a precision manufacturing environment
Work with manufacturing supervision to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Participate and implement continuous improvement ideas through Kaizen events or other activities.
Specify needed tooling and fixtures associated with the CNC turning, milling, and grinding programs.
Identify and procure tools, gages, and develop efficient techniques for manufacture.
RequiredQualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Understand principles of GD&T and be able to read manufacturing prints.
Familiarity and exposure to multi-axis turning and machining, ID/OD grinding, surface grinding, honing, and lapping processes.
Written and oral technical and professional communication skills.
Work effectively with all levels of engineering and management and also have the initiative to contact other groups when a problem/solution requires it.
Ability to work independently with operators and shop floor management to research and determine optimal product manufacturing sequences.
Associates degree in Manufacturing Engineering or relevant technical field; or equivalent education and experience
Minimum 1 year related experience and demonstrated ability to be project lead on new machine tool implementation and implementing new processes.
General experience with programing desirable.
Knowledge of SAP business platform desirable
Knowledge of budgeting, product costing, and capital appropriations
Analytical abilities to collect, organize, analyze data, and develop conclusions and recommendations that achieve future state goals.
Knowledge in process improvement, lean principles, N/C programming, machine tool capabilities, tooling requirements, manufacturing techniques, gauging, materials and special processes.
Knowledge of heat treating processes for different material type desired.
