Professional duties and responsibilities encompass the full spectrum of Anatomic Pathology including surgical and autopsy pathology under the direction of a Pathologist. Surgical pathology responsibilities include initial evaluation, gross description, triage, dissection, and selection of appropriate tissue for microscopic study. Autopsy pathology involves review of patient history, prosection and description of gross findings, preliminary anatomical diagnosis and selection of appropriate tissue for microscopic study.

LOCATION:Rochester General Hospital




  • Surgical Pathology.Under the supervision of staff pathologists, PA performs accurate and timely description and dissection of a wide variety of surgical specimens, including selection of appropriate tissues for microscopic study and gross diagnosis of selected surgical specimens in accordance with all departmental policies and regulatory standards.

  • Intraoperative Consultations.PA assists pathologists with intraoperative consultations, including frozen sections, touch preps and harvesting tissue for other purposes

  • Department operations.PA works with other PA's and department staff to promote and support a positive team environment, continuously assess work processes to identify opportunities to improve patient safety and workflow and maintain inspection readiness.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related sciences. Graduate of accredited Pathology Assistant Program (BS plus 2 years) or equivalent. ASCP certified or eligible to be certified the year of graduation from a Pathologist’s Assistant Program.

  • BS degree in a related science and a graduate of accredited Pathologist Assistant Program with. Two years minimum full time experience as a Pathologist Assistant preferred. .


  • ASCP certification as a PA or eligibility for certification
