Lead Clinical Laboratory Technologist-Chemistry

The Lead Laboratory Technologist performs all procedures related to the pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical processing of patient specimen, including the maintenance and quality control of test equipment. Cross-training is encouraged in all areas of the laboratory. The Lead Technologist is expected to provide support to lab personnel and document occurrences that deviated from standard operating procedures. Work with the immediate supervisor to resolve those issues involving either lab personnel or instrumentation in their laboratory area.

Responsibilities include:

Operates, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots instruments required for performance of procedure.

Rejects specimens, which do not meet defined specimen criteria for rejection.

Assures telephone read-backs are given and documented as per protocol.

Records all results accurately and legibly.

Reviews all daily quality control and workload.

Assures all reports are completed in the specific turnaround-around- time frame.

In absence of supervisor, assumes supervisor's responsibility duties as necessary, keeping the Administrative Director informed of laboratory status.

Qualifications include:

B.S. Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or physical sciences.

3-5 Years of Clinical Laboratory experience with some supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge of current automated and manual laboratory equipment, computers and peripherals.

New York State Clinical Laboratory technologist License is required. ASCP preferred

Must be able to recognize and handle hazardous conditions inherent to the Laboratory environment. Adhere to mandatory Infection Prevention policies.
