Eaton Corporation Certification Engineer in Syracuse, New York

Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds division is currently seeking a Certification Engineer to join our team. This position is based at either our Syracuse, NY or Highland, IL location.

Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Certifications & Labs Manager, the Product Certification Engineer coordinates with Engineering and Product Development groups to develop, analyze and establish the requirements, specifications, procedures and other engineering documents necessary to obtain product certifications and listing through the selected 3rd Party Certification Agency such as UL, CSA, FM, Intertek, and NOM.

In this function you will:

  • Coordinates and implements product testing for certification agencies to include follow-up submittals and product development to comply with UL/CSA Standards and to achieve product introduction dates.

  • Plans and directs the efforts of agency certification reports for our products to the applicable agency for proper listing. In addition, will conduct the analysis and interpretation of modifications affecting the certification of our products.

  • Gathers and leverages data on National Electrical Code and other Safety Standard changes in an effort to keep product development teams educated on the potential impact for Eaton, CBO products helping to ensure a competitive position is maintained within the market.

  • Utilizes collaboration skills to influence and resolve complex problems, influence stakeholders to drive results, and ensure testing is being conducted in accordable with all applicable standards (UL, CSA, ATEX, & IEC). This may include Agency Engineers, Field Inspectors, team members in the Engineering Test Lab, Operations, Marketing, and Accounting.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of a documentation system which tracks product listing requests and their status to insure complete and accurate information is available to the organization and working with UL and the Engineering Test Lab to maintain UL Data Acceptance Program (DAP) status.

  • Participate in the ECR/ECN process to review all potential changes for agency compliance, alerting all departments to problems, drive resolution, update product description files accordingly.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 2 years working with agency standards and testing procedures related to technical product development.

  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of either Syracuse, NY or Highland, IL will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Ability to work in a team environment, and multiple projects

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish and maintain relationships

  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker

  • Experience with UL, CSA, ATEX and IEC standards

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% MAX. Realistically we expect travel to be around 15-20%.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, and multiple projects

  • BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish and maintain relationships

  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker

  • Experience with UL, CSA, ATEX and IEC standards

  • Effective oral and written communication skills as well as planning and organizational skills.
