Pre-Surgical Advance Practice Provider

St. Joseph’s Health is seeking a devoted Advance Practice Provider to join our Pre-Surgical Admission Team.

We are looking for a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to assess our patients who are undergoing a scheduled, elective, surgical procedure. This Advance Practice Provider should have an interest in pre-surgical assessment and strong organization skills. Every patient will need a thorough plan and strategy for implementing a plan of care in anticipation for surgery for patient and families, while collaborating with consulting physicians and ancillary staff. In addition, knowledge in reviewing laboratory data, EKGs, diagnostics studies are essential in this role.

Our ideal candidate would have internal medicine, surgical, or family practice experience; however, willing to training a highly motivated and dedicated experienced Advanced Practice Provider looking to transition to a new field.

A typical schedule would include weekday hours, no holiday, no call requirements.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

  • Nurse Practitioner First Assist: Current New York State RN license; experience in pertinent areas of nursing practice; graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program; Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred; National certification as Nurse Practitioner or active pursuit within one year.

  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program, Master’s Degree preferred; National certification as Physician Assistant or eligible.

  • New York State practice license or eligible

  • DEA eligible, but not required

  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise as applicable, including but not limited to:

  • Pre-surgical management

  • Anesthesia guidelines

  • Clinical setting – Exposure Class I

  • Outpatient

  • Physical Demands:

  • Medium work/light work: must be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.
