Independent Health Clinical Trainer in Williamsville, New York

Overview

The Clinical Trainer is responsible for the design, development and delivery of clinical training and educational programs for both department new hire orientation and continuing education for existing Health Care Services (HCS) associates. The Clinical Trainer ensures healthcare service training is delivered in a standard, efficient manner and reinforces department policies & procedures, compliance criteria, quality standards, regulatory requirements and the principles of managed care. The HCS department includes Utilization Management, Case/Disease Management, Behavioral Health, Office of the Medical Director and Benefit Administration.

Qualifications

  • Current, active, unrestricted, and licensed registered nurse (RN) required or a Bachelor’s degree in social work or another health or human services field that promotes the physical, psychosocial, and/or vocational well-being of the population being serviced may be considered in lieu of RN licensure

  • Four (4) years of direct care experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting required

  • Strong presentation skills required.

  • Previous experience as a trainer or preceptor preferred.

  • Previous experience in a managed care setting preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult learning principles to instruct, motivate and direct individuals at various skill levels over the phone, face to face and in the classroom environment.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.

  • Proficient PC skills and MS Office skills required.

  • Excellent critical thinking and time management skills.

  • Strong, effective and diplomatic interpersonal skills with associates of all levels.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required.

  • Knowledge, skill and ability to complete job duties independently and proficiently.

  • Flexibility in work schedules and assignments required.

Essential Accountabilities

  • Assist in conducting an annual Health Care Services clinical training needs assessment through either formal or informal survey.

  • Ensure the development, implementation and delivery of an effective Training Plan.

  • Understand associate baseline performance; create training materials that measure the learning process.

  • Maintain an associate tracking system for HCS Training taken, including pre- and post-assessment scores, attendance and deliver to HCS management on a regular frequency.

  • Administer the Inter-rater Reliability Testing per regulatory requirements; compile results for manager review and any required audit or regulatory submission.

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Clinical Managed Care and LOB Training Materials.

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of clinical systems training materials (Aerial, HealthRules, Seibel, etc.).

  • Create and deliver training on pathophysiology of body systems to ensure associate clinical knowledge is sound and information is used for relevant portions of their roles.

  • Create and deliver Orientation training materials for Clinical staff. Also deliver orientation training to non-clinical staff as needed.

  • Ensure training delivery includes department supervisors, managers, and subject matter experts to increase the number of skilled staff resources for associates.

  • Participate in creation of standard operating procedures, along with desk level testing of procedures.

  • Attend relevant professional courses to ensure skills are kept up to date.

  • Create training materials utilizing appropriate adult learning principles.

  • Conduct ongoing staff development training.

  • Perform formal evaluation of trainees.

  • Conduct individual remedial training as needed.

  • Create Materials for and Conduct Annual Update Training.

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts by offering ideas and creative solutions to improve policies, processes and tools.
